The tow truck was first invented, or so the story goes, back in 1916. It happened in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where a garage mechanic named Ernest Holmes one day had a big brainstorm. It came to him after he had spent hours working with blocks, strong ropes, and six strong men to pull a car up the banks of a creek. There must be a better way to do something like that, he thought. And he immediately set out to create it; he drew up his first rough idea of a tow truck. It took him a long time to turn his big idea into a reality, but eventually he did it; in the end he started the commercial production of tow trucks.
The biggest worry that most people have when a tow truck driver arrives to start towing their car is that their car will be damaged. But these days you don’t have t worry about that, because the design of modern tow trucks have almost entirely eliminated the danger of damage.
A wheel-lift tow truck is equipped with a large yoke that fits completely under the front or back end of a car (depending on whether it’s a front-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive vehicle).
Once the yoke has been fitted under the car, a hydraulic hoist lifts it off the ground. Which means that the only part of your car that is ever touched by the tow truck is the wheels. So damage is nothing you have to worry about. And rest assured that our drivers know how important your car is to you, and they will treat it with kid gloves.
Flatbed Truck Service
In addition to wheel-lift trucks we also have flatbed trucks, which we use with car that are difficult to tow, or for long-distance transportation of vehicles which are not suited for conventional towing—such as show cars, or expensive antique automobiles.
A flatbed truck has a flat bed which can be inclined to ground level by a hydraulic system. A car can either be stationed on the bed under its own power, or it can be winched up.
Another function of a flatbed truck is to move equipment to a distant location, or to deliver heavy items. Just let us know the nature of your problem or need, and we will send you the right truck for the job.
In addition to towing services, we also provide a full range of roadside assistance services. Do you need jumper cables to bring your battery back to life? Or have you locked your keys inside the car? Or have you run out of gas? In any or all of those situations, we can help you.
